Fibrocystic breast changes are common, benign cystic changes in the fibrous breast tissue associated with the female hormonal cycle and occurring prior to menstruation. Inclusive of a spectrum of histopathological entities, it has a variety of presentations. Typically characterized by mild inflammation and palpable nodules, most commonly in the upper outer quadrants. Other symptoms are breast tenderness, pain (mastalgia), and discomfort. Most often occurs cyclically in women of childbearing age, stopping at menopause. Mild anti-inflammatory or analgesic may be used for breast pain and inflammation.
