Synopsis
Lipedematous scalp is a rare condition characterized by the presence of a thickened, boggy scalp with varying degrees of alopecia. In cases with prominent alopecia, it is referred to as lipedematous alopecia. The observed changes are a result of thickening of the subcutaneous fat on the scalp. The pathogenesis is unknown. It presents primarily in adult Black women.
