Synopsis

Growth disturbance of distal radial physis (wrist) resulting in progressive deformity (bowing), limited range of wrist motion, and increased pain. Most often occurring in girls and frequently bilateral. May be due to trauma, autosomal dominant inheritance, or idiopathic or dysplastic causes. Usually detected in late childhood and early adolescence and confirmed by radiography, CT, and MRI. Associated with Leri-Weill dyschondrosteosis and sometimes with Turner syndrome.

Treatments depend on severity of deformity, as well as skeletal maturity, and may consist of observation, splints, and a number of surgical procedures.
